Sources & labels
Dharma Seed coverage compares unique indexed entries with the total public archive listing at the snapshot date. This is an estimate: teacher feeds and the main archive can differ in which entries they include. Shared-teacher talks count once; collections count as one listing, with their individual tracks indexed separately when listed by the source. Daily updates check newly uploaded recordings and continue through older archive pages; the percentage measures recording listings, not transcripts or topic classification. Audio and video stay at their original sources. The Dalai Lama’s official teaching and talk archive sessions and public video channel, Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu’s complete linked English audio indexes, Sravasti Abbey’s public video uploads, and Upaya’s public podcast listings and feeds are also indexed. The info button beside Source shows its checked scope and any access gaps. Channel archives can also include ceremonies, short clips and community recordings. Scheduled future events are excluded. English or English interpretation is labeled only where supported by the source. Unknown speakers are credited to the publishing archive without being added as teachers. Santa Barbara Institute contributes 11 reviewed public course feeds; restricted courses are excluded and durations are unavailable when the feed reports zero. AudioDharma adds its recent feed and selected teacher and course archives. Plum Village contributes its public Dharma Talks collection attributed to Thich Nhat Hanh, including separate audio/video editions and translated talks. Its larger Living Gems archive is also available at the source. The teacher filter shows teachers with indexed recordings. The full Dharma Seed teacher directory remains available at the source. The coverage percentage applies to Dharma Seed only; the other sources have different collection scopes.
Recording type follows explicit source labels. Combined teachings, introductions, reflections or discussion with guided practice appear only in Dharma talks. Meditations contains standalone guided practices only; ambiguous titles and talks about meditation stay in Dharma talks. Length is the full recording duration, including any introduction or teaching. Ranges use whole minutes, and counts reflect the other active filters.
Practice type and guidance follow explicit wording in the recording title. A session can name more than one practice. Other / unspecified practice includes practices outside the listed categories and titles that do not establish a type. Guidance stays unspecified when the title does not establish it. “Guided” alone does not establish continuous guidance, and “lightly guided” does not specify the frequency of instructions. These labels are not based on listening to the audio. Length is the full recording.
Tradition is an editorial description of a teacher’s teaching context, linked to their profile. It does not establish the doctrine of every talk or an exclusive lineage. Unclassified teachers remain clearly labeled.
Subjects are matched conservatively from a recording’s title or description. Practice or theme brings these subjects together with title-based practice labels. Shared concepts appear once and match either kind of label, counting each recording once. Jhāna & concentration includes both; broader themes such as love, compassion & relationships remain separate from specific techniques. This is a browsing filter, not a claim that every matching recording uses a particular technique. Text mentioned means that the metadata, an indexed source transcript, or a reviewed listening reference identifies the work; it does not imply that the whole recording explains that text. Related-subject suggestions are labeled separately. Connections also link to existing Library readings, teachers, books, People profiles and traditions. Return links use the same connection rules. Related suggestions and teacher context are not claims of a named reference. No full-audio transcription or attainment assessment is performed.
